1957 Mar JBPA is established (membership 307 publishers)
1957 Sep Branches in Osaka and Kyoto opened
1958 Mar Launched Nihon Sogo Tosho Mokuroku (General Directory of Publishers in Japan)
1958 Apr Joined IPA (International Publishers Association)
1958 May Launched Shukan Dokushojin (The Readers Weekly)
1959 Nov The Executive Committee for the Book Reading Week Campaign is reorganised as the Japan Council for the Promotion of Book Reading
1964 Mar Shukan Dokushojin is spun off from JBPA and becomes Shukan Dokushojin Co., Ltd.
1964 Nov Commenced publishing rights consulting service
1965 Apr Authorised as an incorporated body by the Ministry of Education
1966 Sep Commenced accounting management consulting service for publishers
1967 Nov Published the 10 Year History of JBPA
1968 Oct Completed construction of the Japan Publishers Hall
1968 Oct Issued the Centennial Chronological Chart of Publications in Japan
1976 May Launched Korekara Deru Hon (List of Forthcoming Books)
1976 May Hosted the 20th Congress of the IPA (Kyoto,Tokyo)
1977 Oct Launched Nihon Shoseki Soumokuroku (Japanese Books in Print)
1983 Aug Launched Shuppan Koho (Publishing PR)
1984 May Staged the 1st Book Fair of Japan
1986 Nov Staged the 2nd Book Fair of Japan
1987 Oct Published the 30 Year History of JBPA
1988 Nov Staged the 3rd Tokyo Book Fair (renamed from "Book Fair of Japan")
1990 Jul Staged the '90 Tokyo Book Fair
1990 Aug-Nov Staged Japan Year at the Frankfurt Book fair
1991 Sep Established the Japan Reprographic Rights Center
1992 Nov Staged the '92 Tokyo International Book Fair
1994 Jan Staged the Tokyo International Book Fair '94 *Since then, stage annually
1994 Jan Established and joined the Asia Pacific Publishers Association (APPA)
1996 Feb Staged “A history of publishing industry for culture” Exhibition in Kyoto
1997 Sep Released our website “Books”
1998 Jan Hosted the 4th Copyright Symposium of the IPA
1998 Oct Issued the report concerning the flexible operation of the retail price maintenance system written by 4 associations linked to publishing industry. *Since then, issue annually 
1999 Apr Hold the 4th copyright symposium with China
2000 The Year of  Book Reading for Children
2001 Mar The government Fair Trade Commission declared the retail price maintenance system should be maintained for the time being
2002 Feb Implemented the program “Japan year ” in Taipei International Book Exhibition 
2003 Oct Staged the thank-you sales on discount books over the internet *Since then, stage them twice a year in Spring and Autumn 
2003 Nov Staged Salon du Livre et du la presse jeunesse 2004 "Japan Year" at France
2004 Jun The copyright law amendment to give the rental right of books and magazines 
2005 Jul The Literary Culture Promotion Act was adopted and implemented, which determined Oct 27th is the Day of Literary Culture
2009 May Staged “Japan Year” at the Seoul International Book Fair 2009
2010 March Staged “Japan Year” at the Bangkok International Book Fair 2010
JBPA membership stands at 461 publishers.
